Interracial relationships-the movie story

I bet all of us have watched at least one interracial movie… I have watched tonnes of them… Remember Mississippi Masala, Guess Who… well the list is endless. Well I always want the type of relationship that we see in the interracial movies… A neat beginning, a middle that is often messy; and everything is resolved with a soppy satisfying ending. But is this really a realistic way of looking at interracial relationships?

In most of these movies, parents usually play a very big part in the ‘messy middle’… making it hard for the branded ‘imposter’. Well at least most of us can relate to that. But can we relate to that ‘soppy satisfying’ end? In spite all of their differences, do both races eventually realize we're all the same. Do I hear a not really? What say you?

The thing is, we have all turned our relationships into some movie scripts. Movie scripts we write direct and act. We all want a ‘happily ever after’ kind of ending in our interracial relationships. But in the midst of all the prejudice and stereotypes within family and society, do we get to have that? And when things don’t work according to your script, do you deject back to square one, re-writing the movie, or do you hang in there hoping and praying you don’t reach the elastic limit… the breaking point? Amidst all this, does love conquer all?

Am leaving it up to you to let me know. Coz like it or not, this aint the movies. It is our world.

We all need to experience dating at some level in our lives. But in many cases people found resist to get the confidence to spend your time with the person who is stranger for you.

That movie was pure Hollywood Fala. Especially after the way she blew the guy off at the coffee shop, its doubtful she would ever change her mind. The fairytail ending was a bit much.

i totally believe that alot of are shaped by what we find in fiction as a script for our own lives. but u know what, let's remember that is about relationships , no happily ever after ...just challenges to be met , differences to work through but it 's being able to get there, this journey ...

I thought Something New was all Hollywood. There wasn't much reality in it at all. When she first started dating the white guy - everyone disapproved and discouraged her from getting involved with him. Her own brother wouldn't shake hands with the guy when they were introduced. Even she was ashamed to tell people she was dating him. By the end of the movie when she finally told everyone the truth that she loved him- her family and friends all made a sudden 360 degree change. Suddenly her dating a white guy was no problem at all. The ending was just a little too Hollywood happily-ever-after for me.If you have family and friends who don't approve of you dating outside your race - they're not going to undergo some drastic change in their thinking just because you say you're in love with that person. Real life is rarely that simple.

Love does not conquer all. Sometimes the minds of others can't be opened no matter how hard a couple tries. Just being realistic, but I think eventually the relatives will come around. Most of the time...

Movies many times parallels real life. I saw a movie a few weeks ago, I think it was called Something New. It was about a female black high- priced accountant or attorney who hired a white landscaper to improve her backyard. She did not date much and all her dates in the past were black. After the white landscaper made the right moves she learned and appreciated the white man. They fell in love and lived happily thereafter.
