Online versus offline dating

datng.png Do you prefer online dating to the traditional man-meets-woman dating? Well if you do, then it seems you have people to back you up.

According to a May 2007 survey by one online dating website, US single dads declared that online dating is their ideal method of meeting singles. The survey was prompted by an observed increase in single parents subscribing to the site in a bid to understand why so many single fathers are choosing online dating and what they're looking for in a relationship.

More than half of single fathers said they went out on traditional dates less than once a month hence online dating was the easiest way for single parents to meet others.

Something struck me! Two-thirds said that online dating was a safer way to date.

"Balancing work and family alone can be difficult for anyone, but it's even harder for the millions of single parents. It's not surprising that single fathers place such a high value on time and safety. Online dating allows singles to learn about a potential partner before ever meeting them in person."

I decided to toss the question to a few pals of mine. One thing they all concurred with was that online dating is actually time saving… especially for those who have to juggle between work and family. But when I brought in security into the picture, none of them agreed.

Profiling of individuals really helps a great deal when it comes to online dating. And most dating sites have taken this a step further making it even more interactive. With a webcam and a microphone, you can have an online date with the other person to access whether they are worth giving out your number to. It’s kind of like the traditional date… dress for the occasion, have dinner and a glass of wine on the side you know.

On the other hand, when you meet someone in the bar for drinks, you may end up missing out on any inconsistencies the person is exhibiting because the alcohol might impede your judgment.

As much as the survey was only carried out on online daters, do you agree that online dating is the safest way to meet singles as opposed to offline dating? What do you think the results would have been like if the sample was extended to include those not registered on the site?

I have "met" people from all over the world due to my experience with online dating sites. Most of them would never have crossed my path in traditional dating circles. At the end of the day though, I can't cuddle up to my laptop.

The only real differences between online and offline dating that I can see is there are somewhat less inhibitions to reaching out to other people online. Getting rejected online (ignored after initial or a couple of contacts) makes it hard to get feedback as to the rejection, though, and a tad confusing because there is no final message usually.

I think online dating is far better than offline dating only for the simply fact that you get to know a person first. It challenges two people to talk rather than fallin in lust over looks. It also allows a gradual speed in the relationship rather then meeting someone and feeling pressured to give your number right away. I think anything that's good takes time and a investment and online dating is just that. Plus it works for you while your doing your everyday routines. It's almost like having a headhunter out there searching for your perfect mate. Could you imagine walking in a busy city and ever person walking towards you had a sign attached to their body describing them from age height kids work interest and a about me section where you could prescreen the one's you where interested in.The only good thing about that is you'd be able to actually see in person what a person really looks like. That's the only downside to online dating not everyone looks like the pictures they put up lol. Okay I got way too into this..Those are my thoughts.

i still am a fan of the old fashion way, you know how you meet that guy while your out and you hit it off you don't have to worry about pics, or any hidden info ( if you run into the right guy) meeting new people online is great but for me i prefer offline dating.

i agree with the consensus- neither is better or more safe than the other. real time dating can bring liars and cheats and online dating can bring posers and thieves. both have to be approached with diligence, caution, and common sense. there is no "easy" way to date.

I agree with JenniferDawn. There's not that big of a difference. You do find more people online that are posers, however. I guess it all boils down to a person's comfort level when it comes to dating.

As far as the difference between online and regular dating, I don't know that one is safer the other.. People can lie online just as easily as they can lie in person. I do think that Online is a more Convenient way to date because you have a chance to chat and get to know more about each other before you actually meet. The down fall to that however is that once you meet the chemestry you had via the internet May not be there... So it's definatly a gamble either way!
