The new birth control pill for men
Hey honey, could you take out the trash, wash the car, change the oil and don't forget to take your birth control pill. Scientist have finally gotten around to developing a contraceptive "pill" for men. However, before you throw away all the latex in the house, let's talk about how the "pill" works.
You know Leticia is always looking out for my folks when it comes to testing all the new and latest progress that modern science has to offer. With that in mind, when the thought to do an article on the male birth control pill came to mind, I took it upon myself to test the waters and ask one of my closest male friends would he use it. Here's how the conversation went... Me: Hey, what do you think about going on the male birth control pill? Him: What? Me: There's a new pill coming out for MEN...a birth control pill, will you take it? Him: "OH, HELL NO"!!! Me: Why not? Him: Because I don't want anything to mess with "Johnson & the boys"! Me: (Hysterical laughter at the thought of his penis and testicles having a name...) Are you serious? Him: Yes, I'd wear a condom before I'd take a pill!

There you have it...an honest response from a man who names his body parts. A lot of guys feel the same when it comes to birth control. "Let's just leave it up to the women".
That may not be such a bad idea. Truth be told, if the birth control method does not work, raising a child is in most cases left up to the woman too, right? But what about all those sneaky little tramps out there trying to trap a man? What better way to be certain you won't be called into child support court? There really are benefits for both sides.
Let's just say that there is a brave man out there that is not worried about his "Johnson, Jones or Smith" and would be willing to give the pill a try. Well, it looks like British scientists have been working on such a pill that could be available as soon as 2011. It's a hormone-free pill that would actually stop the ejaculation of sperm by blocking the muscle that moves the sperm out into the universe.
Don't be alarmed, you'd still have the "punch" it would just be "alcohol" free. You'd still have a "loaded gun" you'd just be shooting "blanks". You get my point?
The best part seems to be that you wouldn't have to take the male birth control pill everyday (like women do). It could be taken as close to a couple of hours prior to "show time" and in your system for about 24 hours. Unfortunately, it hasn't been tested on humans...yet. Again, it should be available around the year 2011. The only side effects seem to be dizziness. It certainly beats the alternative male birth control methods being use today, like vasectomies and abstinence.
The male birth control pill is definitely something to be on the look out for. Especially if you have teen-age sons, that play ball. Not that any woman would intentionally sleep with a man in hopes of getting herself pregnant. It's always better to be safe, than anything else.
Keep in mind that NO birth control pill prevents the contraction or spread of diseases like HIV or AIDS. You and your partner would still have to use a condom for that.
This is Leticia, reminding you to stay informed and protected.

Frankly, I think this pill will fall like a ton of bricks!!! I don't know of any male friends or family member that would take such a pill!!! Its almost always been on the women to do the birth control but it would be a nice change if the men took on more responsibility...you know..other then to only put on a condom....that just might brake!!!

I don't think men should have to take birth control, it seems like something a women should have to do. On the flip side, I do think the man should be responsible for always having condoms...

I am largely against the pill, for men or for women. The real side effects will not be discovered for some time and "blood clots, stroke and heart attacks", associated with female contraception are no jokes. I can't imagine that the side effects for men are going to be any less dramatic. Better living through chemistry has not paid off that well. And, as Fala pointed out, any woman who would fall for, "Don't worry Baby I'm on the pill," should have at least her head examined. Condoms are safe, effective and come in flavors. Don't fear the Trojan horse.

I am NOT for taking alot of pills/medications so I think using a condom is best. Men taking a pill would be a night mare because they will always forget to take it.

It's going to be really interesting to see what kinds of social issues arise as a result of the male b/c pill. Although I'm hoping that it won't be very widely outside of married and committed relationships--HIV and other STDs are still alive and well out there.

Hmm you can't rely on guys to remember a lot of things so I don't think I'd rely on this pill thing to work for men! :-P

I can't wait for the male pill, and it looks like I won't need to burn my bra to get it. But this is only 1 research grp - there is an Aussie medical team here already at clinical stages using a hormonal based pill. I'd think I'd prefer a few zits to the UK method of messing with me Johnson... And ladies I look forward to how it affects the taste!

I think this to women would be like a man doing a woman's activity, wearing a skirt, wearing makeup, etc. It seems like nowadays in this society women have all the power, and this pill would reduce or even eliminate accidental pregnancies. But of course this would make women mad because they lose some power and some control if this happens. Of course before women had all of the control. Now guys will. That makes women mad. Tough shit. Back then the playing field was slanted in the favor of guys a considerable amount. Now someone made the playing field the side of a mountain. and the women are at the top. Bullshit isn't it? I think this pill is one step closer to getting equality back.
