Getting Fit & Fabulous for the New Year
When was the last time you looked at your self in the mirror and REALLY loved what you saw? I don't mean you've "come to grips" with your body, I mean you really LOVE it for all the right reasons. Let's start off the New Year, looking and feeling sexy INSIDE & OUT!
Hey this is Leticia. Now I know I'm not the only one that loves to look at people with great bodies. I love to look at men for obvious reasons and women well, because I can. It's like a yard stick to see where I fit in. If I could construct the perfect body for me what would it look like?

Let's see, I'd have the arms of Angela Bassett, the legs of Tina Turner and the butt of Jennifer Lopez. Say what you will, but Puffy, Chris Judd, Ben Affleck, and Marc Anthony (and those are just the ones we know about), they can't ALL be wrong. Sorry, that was a little jealousy sneaking through. Not that I'd want any of those guys...just the butt. Anyway, I'd keep my eyes, nose, lips...I'd keep my face. I'd also keep my breast because they work for me and with the right push up bra...life is good.
Well, since I don't think anyone is going to give up any body parts I guess I'll have to find another way to get that perfect body in 2007. For me, it's more than just looking good to turn heads. Even without all the celebrity parts, I manage to do okay. However, I'm tired of being tired. My back aches my feet hurt. I realize that I'm not getting younger, but I don't have to feel or look old either.
Do you realize that being more active and getting in shape can actually help prevent or at least slow down the arrival of disease and aging? It could improve your ability to sleep and minimize the symptoms of anxiety and depression. On the flip side, being a couch potato can put you at greater risk for developing high blood pressure, obesity, heart disease and the list goes on and on.
The thing that I find interesting is that most people already know this. Yet, they do nothing about it. It's always easier to find reasons why NOT to do something that you know initially will cause you some pain or discomfort. However, what we should be doing is looking at the bigger picture. Easier said than done I know. Let's look at it another way. If you knew that you could extend the life of someone you loved by five to ten years would you? Do you love you? Well, let's get started.
We can all "start" an exercise program right? The hardest part is staying with it. The best way to do that is to pick activities that you love to do. If running is not your thing...don't run. You can walk, jog, cycle, swim and/or do aerobics. There are classes in gyms, personal trainers that can come to you or video's that you can purchase to get you started. The key is to get started...DO SOMETHING!
It's not about having the perfect body; it's about having a body that is perfect for you. For me, perfection is a body that can jump out of bed, roll down a hill, dance until dawn and (let me keep it PG) ...make a man say... "Aren't you tired yet?"
This is Leticia and we should all strive to have a body that we'd want to sleep next to.

Thats good advice Justknowingu. Most food portions - especially at restaurants are way too big and have more calories than one person needs to eat in one sitting.

Don't get discouraged by small set backs. Don't give up on your work out routine if you miss a few days or take a week off. You don't need the dedication of a professional athlete. As long as you manage to get back to it, that's all that matters.

look at all the food on your plate before you start to eat--and just eat half of it and save the rest for later...smaller and healthy meals is important!

Okay Okay, I had started swimming at the Y 2 times a week last year , but had dealing with some stress and financial stuff around the holidays and stopped going so much. then got sick and havent been since new years. It is time to get back into the swim of things. Thanks for igniting the fire again. We all need a little boost now and then.

I've skipped the gym 4 days in a row and I feel terrible. I know I shouldn't be making excuses but it's just too cold out now!

Good article! I try to maintain a healthy mindset all year around. Yes I have a few extra pounds attached to me, but my last checkup was very good and I am in excellent health. I will do my best to maintain that healthy record.

i noticed that when i started to feel good, i started to look good and when i started to look good, i started feeling sexy and it was noticeble. im starting to get noticed when im out and about. i catch guys staring at me and at first i thought maybe it was the usual... a booger , food stain, tiolet paper. lol. but then i said.. NAW.. and a guy im talking to looked at me one day and said.. " did u know u are sooooo sexy? " and would not take his eyes off of me... i have never been into the gym or into guys that work out too much. i prefer the natural look becuase lets face it.. there are not that many Jack Lalanes running around out there these days so give me slightly round. lol. just solid if that makes sense.

I have recently started avoiding mirrors at all cost. They simply are the biggest liars on earth! They tell me my butt is getting dimples, and I know it's not. They tell me the thighs are getting plump. Another lie! This morning was the last straw! The rotten, stinking, lying mirror had the NERVE to tell me that my body was no longer a slim size 6, and that I need to call Jenny now! Have you ever heard such rude lies???? LOL! I guess it really is time to get back into that Pilates class :)

I now excercise at least 3 times a week. I mainly do cardio work at the gym. I have also lost over 70 lbs. I am at last very happy with how I feel and look. I am aware that a few obviously unhappy people on afro will type a negative comment about what I have achieved. The last thing that was commented on was my spelling lol! Like I let small minded people take my success away from me. No way!!!!!!!
