According to Fox News, the study done on rodents by Princeton Scientists showed an increase in brain volume of sexually active rodents. The sexually active ones were also less anxious than the virgins. The blood levels of stress were also higher in those that had no sex.

The conclusion drawn from this study is... stress hormones could be damaging to the brain and the effects can be superseded if the experiences that triggered the hormones were pleasant.

What are you waiting for? Hump your way to smartness ;-) .

Oh I figured out what they really meant!! They were talking about the brain getting bigger and everyone knows that guys have a second brain in their penises that does most of their thinking so all that sex must have increased the size of THAT brain!! They say some dinosaurs had two brains so it is perfectly plausible theory, right?;-) Joseph Moyer

What a load of crap!! First we have a spurious source of information that is not known for their scientific, psychological or sociological prowess otherwise known as Fox news. Even a publication as shallow as Psychology Today which is for non-psychologists but the average person would thumb their nose up at this study. Brain volume as not been linked to higher intelligence since we only use a small fraction of our brain and REAL studies have been done on that found in psychological abstracts from real social scientists. And of course, the blood levels of stress were higher in the virgins. It is good to have higher stress because in humans, stress is a good motivator and when sublimated as Freud said, it is the creator of all that is remarkable and makes advances in society. Freud said if we were just to indulge in sexual release, we would have no motivation to sublimate his precious energy into building civilizations and art and music and the finer and deeper things in life. And to compare us to rats when we are infinitely more complex is also ludicrous. If that were true, then new drugs would be approved by the FDA if they just worked on rats. Also rats are incapable of many pleasures so of course might release their stress level. Humans are much more complex and they can get joy out of love, family, helping others, meditation and prayer, and a multitude of other pleasures that don't involve sex. Studies show that celibate monks in monasteries live longer than the average person no doubt due to the peace and joy they have found in their religious endeavors and the comradery that they experience with their fellow monks and they also do much to help others and get joy and peace from that. Helping others or having a close family is much more enjoyable than something as base sex especially outside of marriage where there is a serious commitment and desire to spend your life getting to know the most intimate and personal details of your spouse and hopefully family. People are complicated and take a lifetime to get to know. And children and spouse are always evolving so you can never truly know them all the way any more than you can know a whole river by taking one cup of water from it. You are taking but a sample of it but it is constantly flowing and moving so impossible to know in its entirety and humans are infinitely more complex than that. So to equate us to rats is an insult. This was not a good study and didn't follow the scientific method and came up with conclusions that were massive jumps in logic that were ridiculous. Crap like this shouldn't even be published because it gives more excuses for our already over-sexed and hedonistic population to get worse if that is possible. Plus increases in Testosterone and in Estrogen associated with having a high sex drive actually impair judgment and intellectual capacity, not increase it. REAL studies have proven that. People should be educated on how studies should really be done before they publish them and make them seem official. Just Fox trying to appeal to the shallow masses again and someone in Princeton trying to get a grant. It is well known that sensationalized studies are more likely to get funding my some shallow corporation or another. And I bet they didn't even make the conclusion that sex makes you smarter. There are so many confounding variables in this study that I couldn't even begin to list them all. And don't be a drone and listen to everything you see on TV. Joseph Moyer
