Black couple give birth to a blue-eyed blonde

Posted by James, 21 Jul

Blonde babyI don’t whether to say someone got played or in the spirit of multiculturalism call this a miracle of some sort. Britain’s tabloids have gone to the moon and back with the story of a white baby girl - with blonde curls and blue eyes – who was born to a black Nigerian couple, Ben and Angela Ihegboro. Genetics experts are mystified … the baby’s parents even more baffled!

When the nurses presented the baby to the couple, Ben tells The Sun he cried out, "What the flip? Is she mine?" That said though, he has never doubted he is the real father of this baby girl they named Nmachi – which means "beauty of God" in Nigeria. "Of course she is mine. My wife is true to me," he said.

Their other two children are dark. The baby looks nothing like an albino. Some experts suggest that maybe the couple could be having light-skin gene variants, inherited from long-dead white ancestors. However, the couple denies having any history of interracial mixing within their families.

So if she didn’t cheat on him, then all we can go with is genetic mutation. But other experts are still using the albino explanation saying the nurse who said Nmachi is an expert in obstetrics, not genetic disorders.

Even with all this press buzz, the Ihegboros love their daughter. "She's a miracle baby," says Angela.

talleric, I think it is unfair for you to generalize all Nigerians. If you beleive the sto0ry is false, rather than lumping all Nigerians (of which i am one) inot the same category of con artists, you should speak only on the couple in question. If anyone knows anything about genetics, it is quite possible for a very fair skin child to be born of dark skinned parents. there can be variations in eye and skin color.

You know both of my parents are full-blooded Nigerians. However, my mom told me that my grand-father was lighter than I am and he has blue eyes. I've seen pictures that support this. But on another note I am the lightest one in my family and was even "whiter" when I was a baby. My brother and sister are a nice dark mocha chocolate compared to my caramel tone!

I think that is some BS. And the fact that we have not heard anything on national news makes me even more suspicious. Plus, the fact that the story is coming out of Africa, from Nigerians doesn't boost my confidence. Im not racist! I am African American. But all of us know damn well about the multitude of "CONS" that come from that region! Has any one heard of something called "Publicity stunt".

Is this child an example of proof that white people are ultimately derived from black people? ATTENTION ALL WHITES: Please insert a bone in your nose, and a round plate in your bottom lip. You are really black like us.

I read somewhere that blonde/blue is actually a genetic mutation. While I'm not sure if this tabloid story is true (it's a tabloid, come on!), I think it could be possible from what I recall from biology classes. We really ARE all ONE. :)

I guess anything is possible...I have seven siblings and we range in color/complexion from very fair/yellow to medium brown...but none of us are blue/blond.

I knew a white couple in st.louis that I went to church with who had four kids. The oldest one was a little black girl. They said she was theirs, that she gave birth to her like the other three. Sometimes genes skip over multiple generations, and they say when they do spring back up they come back really strong.

@Sam Yes I saw the movie Skin, it was based on a true story they say. The white South African couple had 2 children who looked black and 1 that came out looking white, I still have trouble believing that story in particular lol!

It happened in South Africa long ago the other way around. They made a movie about it too. I think it was called Skin. White parents got a black girl in the 60's.

Wow, this is quite an interesting event for this couple! I believe that it is genetic though,I guess they'll have to wait and see as the child gets older, if anything changes.
