What's the Big attraction?

Posted by Leticia, 12 Jun 06

A San Francisco teacher of German and Japanese heritage stopped dating white men after a bad experience with her high school sweetheart... "He thought it would be interesting to date an Asian woman because of the quiet, submissive image portrayed on ‘Shogun" ...She broke up with him because of that! What is the big attraction that so many men have with Asian women? How much is really myth and what do Asian women have to say about it?

They just released the movie Memoirs of a Geisha on DVD and I remember when it first came out in Theatres the movie trailer looked so inviting. The colors, the music the women! There is something very mysterious and sexy about them Asian girls. Now I'm sure at one time or another I've heard the same thing about Italians, red heads and black women too. So, ladies don't hate, and fella's I'm sure that you're with me on this one.

When I first started to do my homework on the "Asian Mystic", I realized that the "big attraction" isn't something new. In fact, I found an article online that dated back to 1990 talking about how the hottest multicultural pairing was between white men and Asian women. It was so intense, that at a college in California, there was a great increase in white guys signing up for Asian-language classes and joining Asian Organizations on campus, you guessed it, just to meet Asian women.

Your perfect partner could be online right now...

What are you looking for?

Perhaps the attraction to Asian women has something to do with their femininity being stamped on the brains of men for decades. However, to suggest that Asian women are submissive, demure and make great wives...just because they're Asian, is to suggest that most black men are like JJ Evans from Good Times..."Dynomite!" I'm sure that both my Asian sistas and my black brothers will agree, this stereotype is not only not the reality, it's also offensive to both groups.

Then why do guys go ga-ga for Asian women? The reality is that besides black and white, Asian and (insert ethnic group of your choice), is the second multi cultural match up out there. So, I asked a friend that has literally dated the United Nations of women. I'll call him "Bob", ‘cause that's his name. Well, Bob says that for him, it really is about the femininity of the Asian women. He says that the Asian women that he's dated always carried themselves and conducted themselves like a lady. I resisted my urge to fart, belch and curse as he went on, but I got the point.

It seems that us other girls, have been so busy competing in the work force and in our personal lives to be "one of the guys", that we've revealed the secrets of the magician. That we don't always want or feel the need to be in make-up and high heels, laughing at jokes that aren't funny and dying for a guy to take us home and tell him "who our daddy is"! Okay, so I guess I'm starting to take this thing a little personal. It's just that as with any sex, race, nationality, group of people, you will find a great variety of everything. To imply that we really are that "different" really perpetuates the divide.

I think that men are attracted to Asian women for the same reasons that some men are attracted to Puerto Ricans, Blondes, Africans, chicks with nose rings...because we are WOMEN and it's a preference. So, if your choice is to date an Asian women, you may want to check out a new book by Ming Tan, entitled, "How to Attract Asian Women". I was even thinking about asking Ming if I could copy the whole book and just change the title to "How to Attract Big Booty Girls from the South" by Leticia. (I'll let you know how that goes).

Looks like this not so "new" trend is not really anything new, it's just Asian women's time of season again. So, to all my sistas, go rent Memoirs of a Geisha and when you see an Asian woman on the street, give them a high five and tell that sista to "work it"! This is Leticia, look out for my book!

I think beauty is in the eye of the beholder no matter what age, race, sex or religion. Nothing else matters as long as you find true happiness.

It's silly how a lot of men think of all Asian women as submissive, but at the same time a lot of men on this site have this silly fantasy about Black women, that we are all these big booty video ho's, or they are looking for someone who looks like Janet Jackson or Beyonce' (there were two men on this site who actually said that to me). I think these men are pathetic and need to get a firm grip on reality.

I think with Asian woman there is a mystique and femininity that is there that attracts some men. This doesnt mean that all Asian women exudes this, many dont. Still you can find the same things in any woman of any race. I think it is more a matter of what attracts us.

THIS IS A VERY INTERESTING TOPIC.. FROM MY STAND POINT I LOOK BEYOND THE COLOR AND LOOK INSIDE THE HEART.. LETS SEE IF WE BREAK IT DOWN WE KNOW THAT ALL COLOR OF WOMEN ARE BEAUTIFUL SOME WITH BIG EYES SMALL EYES SLANTED EYES WINKLED EYES HELL EVEN SMALL EYES.. THE POINT I MAKE IS LOOK INTO THE HEART NOT THE COLOR.. AND JUST REMEMBER THAT BLACK WOMEN ARE THE STRONGEST AND WE WOMEN OF OTHER NATIONALITY COULD LEARN ALOT FROM THEM IF JUST GIVING THE CHANCE.. LOOK AT ALL THE PROBLEMS THEY FACE AND OVER COME.. I RAISE MY HAND IN HONOR OF ALL WOMEN BUT I RAISE MY HEART TO YOU AFRICAN WOMEN.. WELL THAT IS JUST MY TAKE ON IT.. WHO AM I JUST A WHITE WOMAN IN A WORLD TRYING TO SHOW THAT COLOR HAS NO BEARING IN SOME CASES.. OK IN MOST CASES LOL//

Attraction come in stages just like anything else that are seen fashionable. when Jay lo was big all you heard was men that wanted a Jay lo look alike and women that wanted her butt. Popular moves set the tone to, so we are victims of our senses.

Just like some people are more comfortable with the familiar, I think that some people are just attracted to unfamiliar, regardless of race.

Well who care about the race. I am surely not racial. A woman is a woman. And no colour will ever make her something different than a woman.

I think men are just attracted to the unknown and when they realize its not much different than anything else they try another new thing... there are still submissive women in the US but when men find them they dog them out... and treat them as if they are stupid instead of submissive... so what are they REALLY looking for???

Who cares what a persons race is, look at Captain Kirk on Star Trek. That guy would go for a green chick, a blue chick, a red or yellow chick...skin color had no baring what so ever when Captain Kirk (aka Captain Dirk Diggler) was around, more people should be open minded like he was on the show, only don't be the ho he was lol.

Yeah Yeah and the divorce rate is still high even among the pretty petite Asian women married to White, Black and other men. So I guess the myth only has a temporary effect until men get used to having it all the time.

I thought the article was very interesting! Now I myself am a black man. I think from our stand point, it is an issue of being different. What I mean is....dating a white woman, if you are black, at one time was a curiousity that had to be satisfied. Now there is a need to try something else. It all comes down to eventually finding the right person for one's self and not being afraid to look outside what society says is the norm. Thank you
