To meet up early or not?

Posted by Ria, 08 Aug

Some people have had their fair share of online dating disappointments: They meet someone online, chat for a while and tell each other every detail about their lives. Once they feel they have known each other enough after months of chatting and messaging, that the other person is for sure the potential mate, they decide it’s about time they meet, only to realize that there is no attraction, no chemistry, they just don’t click. What a waste of time?

For this reason, do you think it’s wise to meet up a person you met online in the early stages to save yourself the time and effort and probably weed out guys who just want to get attention from other daters and really have no intention of going out on a real date or would you rather take the time to know someone well enough before meeting them in person; no matter what the outcome of the offline date might be?

I think meeting early on is the only way to genuinely connect. All the messages in the world, texting, phone calls, none of it replaces face-to-face interaction. If you are genuinely looking for something real, I say meet sooner rather than later.

I was taking to a woman on IDC for a couple of months, one day we were randomly texting as I was layed over in a major US airport. She just happened to be passing through the exact same airport! Long story short, we hit it off, and the chemistry was, well spot on! I think if you hit it off on the phone you should try to arrange a link up ASAP

I prefer early. Reading a profile is one thing, seeing a picture is another but, seeing that person up close is the tell, tell. #1 View a profile, #2 talk a bit, #3 hear their voice, #4 meet in person.

I believe that it's better to meet early so that you know if there's a connection. If no connection then you don't waste time telling that person everything about you.

I usually know after a good amount of chats if I want to date someone early on. They have to want to feel the same way too, and it can be difficult if you are not on the same wavelength. Chemistry and attraction can be a significant factor. The only thing that gets in the way is if the person lives far away. I have had quite a few guys who say that they wish that they lived closer to me. It is frustrating because they are attracted to me and I am attracted to them. And the texting and emailing can go on for a long time. Eventually I like to exchange phone numbers because it kind of breaks the ice even more and you can hear their voice, so that when you do go on a date you are less likely to be nervous. I usually ask them or they offer their number. So it is good to get to know someone well enough, but if you find that you are ready to go on a date after a few months, you just do it.
