Sell-by date

Posted by Ria, 02 Nov

sell-by-date.jpgThe twentieth century ushered in the era of packaged foods and preserved foods in order to lengthen the shelf-life. And with this came the sell-by or use-by date. This tells the retailer how long to display the product for sale. And as they all say, whenever you go shopping, you should check out these dates before buying them.

Where is this Ria woman going with this?

Do you sometimes feel like people have introduced a virtual sell-by date on the dating shelves? Funny as this may look, I kind of amuse myself by metaphorically seeing the dating field as ebay. I am on ebay too.

The other day while at a funeral, my mum’s pal asked me if I finally got married. Well, being a 33 year-old woman in this age and era, it came to her as a shock that there is no steady man in my life and “NO BABY!᾿, she screamt. Then she pulled a joke on me… “Well don’t let those eggs of yours get to the sell-by date.᾿ I must admit guys, I was a bit bothered by her statement. And as they say, when the joke is on you, it aint that funny.

Going back to ebay, sometimes I feel like I have been there too long. I like to think of myself as some hot cutie, with all those curves and all. So I wonder, why aren’t guys bidding? And if they are, then why isn’t there a sold sign on me? YET? I know its ridiculous and I am happy with being single. But sometimes it gets me thinking… “Am I past the sell-by date?᾿

Looking at the Hollywood scene, most grandpas are scoring with the youngest and hottest stars. Take Donald Trump for example. And what worries me is some whacko research I read showing that a “woman over 40 is more likely to be killed by terrorists than to marry for the first time.᾿ Well the rate of marriages for women over fifty is way lower than that of men.

The thing is, even with all these statistics, I still don’t believe this sell-by crap (or so I console myself) coz my aunt got married for the first time at 48.

Funny enough, much as older men love the young women, the grandmas are no better. One woman who is 71 was being hooked up to 3 men who were between the ages of 55 and 60 but turned them all down. What did she really want? A 45 year old toy boy? So it got me reviewing my thinking… maybe this sell-by date saga aint just a woman thing.

So why am I still on ebay? Well maybe am like grandma above … looking for some fresh blood on ebay too.

Looks like the expiration date on this conversation is long past , I read all labels as I once bought a box of cheerios and when I opened it inside the wax bag was spider webs , never fear as I called the 800 # on the package and they sent me coupons for fresh cheerios . As far as younger women go , I am too old to try and teach anyone in the ways of the old US highways in this day of Interstates . When I was young computers weighed 5 tons , now we even have cell phones , the only sure thing I see is the Sun still sets in the West , Love Les

hey all!!! ria, gyrl, i feel like you sometimes like an item on ebay...lol ; ). but i DO notice another trend. as older men prey on the younger men, the young studs on after the more mature woman! some of them are not serious just liket the older, but others seem to be looking for a meaningful relationship and age is no object to them. the dating scene is gettin real wild!

Great thoughts etherreal, too many people have such hoops their prospective partner has to jump through. A certain height, looks, or income. Could be race, religion, and so on. Certainly there is someone out there for all of us. Perhaps more of us should ask, what am I bringing to the table to deserve this perfect mate. I certainly don't advocate not having standards, but a little outside the box thinking could help make a love connection. My two cents, your mileage may vary

I know some people who are "still on ebay" because they have too many restrictions about dating. In the end, no one is good enough for them, so they're happy being single. ok, fine. It makes no sense to rush into marriage simply because of advancing years. How long will it last? My advice is to open up & accept people on a broader range. Don't be so concerned about age, height, color, religion, nationality, financial status, etc. You could be letting some fantastic prospective partners pass you by.......

I think it's great that women feel free to pursue a sweet young thang if that's what floats their boat. How your boat gets floated is really your own business. I've been out of the sweet young thang category for a few years now, but I have been flirted with on this site with a few women who were senior to me by a bit. Likewise I have received flirts from women whose profiles show them as being almost half my age and/or looking for someone much younger than me. So far nothing has come of either, but both are equally flattering. I tend to be attracted to women who are "age appropriate" to me. It would strange to introduce my girlfriend to my daughter (my "baby") and discover that the two of them had Mrs. Mendez for Spanish in the tenth grade. Rules get bent and broken all the time, including mine, but I keep that image in mind. Other than that, what a woman has to say and what her interests are and, naturally what she looks like are more important to me than the number of years she has occupied her current life form. Still, it's Saturday and I don't have a date for tonight so maybe I'm not the best judge.

About the dumbest thing I ever read! I'd rather live with a woman that hates me than pretend I like the writer!
