Men and women talk styles different?

Posted by Ria, 20 Sep

gag.jpgEver tried eavesdropping on groups of males and females talking? It seems that past experiences naturally shape different communication patterns. It’s like boys and girls are raised in totally different worlds… oh yeah… Mars and Venus.

Women talk, talk and talk some more? For centuries, we have been accused of this… talking more than men. There is even a creation joke about it.

"The Lord created a girl. Two beautiful legs, so long and so slender,Round, slim, and firm, and ever so tender. Two lovely hips to increase his desire, And rounded and firm to bring out the fire. Two lovely breasts, so full and so proud...two loving hands, to soothe and caress you.Soft, cascading hair hung down over her shoulder, And two dreamy eyes, just to make him grow bolder. Twas made for a man, just to make his heart sing.........Then he added a mouth, and ruined the whole damn thing!"

So how true is this?

According to studies at Harvard University, girls learn to talk earlier than boys. This makes their articulation better… acquiring an extended vocabulary at an early age. To add some spice to all this, apparently this talk talk talk business starts very early… infant girls move their lips more while in the hospital nursery.

Little girls (21/2 to 4 years) talk to themselves when playing with dolls … and hundred percent of the time, they made recognizable words. As for the boys, 40% of the words are exclamations… “Wow!᾿ “Yaaaah᾿ and sound effects like “Zooom!᾿

When it comes to relationships, couples also talk on different wavelengths. It’s like they are traveling on different roads hence coming up with totally different conclusions. He goes on about business, sports and cars and she rattles on about her friends and relationships.

Women tend to look for sympathy and support… the “Emotional Channel᾿. Men on the other hand may not understand this and tend to give logical advice… the “Logical Channel᾿.

So since men and women operate on different channels where marriage and relationships are concerned what does it take to have us all viewing the same channel? or perhaps we should try spending time watching their channel for a while so we can understand them better?

that's funny in my realtionship he talks and talks and talks and keeps repeating himself to get his point across. im direct and straight to the point so i feel like he is N-A-G-G-I-N-G. however i was raised with three older brothers the same as they were and think alot like a guy in alot of ways. so guess it all in the enviroment. nature vs nuture.

I have a son and I have learned so much about male communication from him, its funny. I've learned that men unlike us get to the point without all the other conversation we use. They don't keep repeating themselves or analyze the life out of a situation, just give them the bottom line. When they look pensive and you ask what are you thinking they usually say 'huh' or 'what.' They make their points not necessarily looking for us to agree or disagree. When they say something or when they're done, they are done, even if we aren't they are. Even though talking to men can be very frustrating, we can't force them to communicate as we do because it won't happen. Isn't that what we like about men, their differences? You can communicate with men to a degree but that's what we have mothers and girlfriends for. If my man communicated with me like he was one of my girlfriends then I would worried.

Its not just what men and women talk about its also how they talk that can raise hassles with comprehension. Women speak W-INGLISH, a language full of nuance and subtlety and often incomprehensible to men!The best way i can describe it is that this language talks about concepts and ideas and intangibles whereas men tend to be more descriptive of physical circumstances.(Consider how both talk about sex for example). Bear in mind that for years women were socialised to be coy about stating full on what they feel and think for fear it would make them look aggressive, unfeminine or the like. Whereas men have always been encouraged to go for it , be direct and this is often seen as a determinant of success or achievement. By being subtle many women feel they are sparing the fragile male ego, and men can often perceive this subtlety as dishonesty, failing to consider whether or not they could deal with the truth if it was told to them! Men are also afraid to open their hearts becuase for years they have been socilaised to think this is a mark of weakness or unmasculinity. Much safer to stick with physical descriptions of the phenomenal world and stay away from the icky bits that expose the soul! And so a dance takes place in which the two parties effectively speak not only of different things but in different languages. to say one is from mars and the other from venus to me is descriptive and may be true. But its often just an excuse for not having the courage to really express what one wants in a manner that is comprehensible to the other. If really you want to know you will. If you are afraid to hear you will be deaf. Women share equal responsibility with men for this and both require courage to overcome their limitations and make themselves understood. You cannot communicate if you want to hide, or if ytou are afraid! Just my humble opinion and observation!

Sometimes it helps when we listen to each other...let him talk, then respond, and vice versa. You can't hear what the other is saying if you are talking at the same time.

I always wanted to learn how to make the noises boys used. Never could though. My 'vrooom' never sounded like a car. Maybe that's why I'm still single

Of course we speak in different styles. Men are from Mars and women from Venus, remember? They don't speak the same language on both planets, you know?
