'Game of Thrones' Lacks Diversity, Says David Oyelowo
British actor David Oyelowo recently criticized the HBO's popular TV series, 'Game of Thrones' for its lack of diversity in main characters. The leading roles seem to have been given to white actors and actresses.
According to Oyelowo, there is "no excuse" for this lack of diversity and feels actors of color deserve leading roles in this fantasy series. He also added that since 'Game of Thrones' features people of color in smaller roles, then there should be room for bigger roles.

In an interview with RadioTimes.com Oyelowo added: "Even if for whatever reason, it’s a world in which people of color in those stories are subservient, or they are more in a helper role, that doesn’t mean they can’t have prominent storylines. All you have to do is shift the focus to focus on those characters."
People of color continue being marginalized in Hollywood. And much as there are colored actors on the show all it shows is how much inequality there is because most of them are given background roles. Oyelowo feels "...it’s a conscious decision to put them on the margins, as opposed to put them front and centre."
Question is: How do we expect the Oscar nominations and awards to be racially inclusive if there will be no people of color to be nominated for these roles in the first place? As Oyelowo puts it, there is no excuse. And at this rate, #OscarsSoWhite will never be a thing of the past. What do you think?
