Can a Bromance Ruin a Relationship?

Bromance

A bromance is a very tight emotional relationship between two men. You find two men who call each other all the time. They tend to share every detail of their lives. They always hang out together.

The thing that sets about these bros who seem to be so affectionate with one another and a gay person, is that this type of relationship is non-sexual in nature. So what happens when someone actually gets into another emotional but sexual relationship with a man or woman?

The entrance of a third party in this kind of relationship throws things off balance. It does it both for the bromance and the new upcoming relationship. I usually tend to feel like this kind of relationship isn’t healthy for the new relationship. It can actually ruin it.

Below are reasons why.

bromance

1.      Jealousy:

Here are a couple of bros who are used to spending time together. Then along comes this hot chic and one of the bros hits on her. Before long they are dating. So how is the dude supposed to divide his time between his bro and his girl?

Much as people like to say “bros before hos”, who doesn’t want to get laid? So at some point, he will have to choose. And one of the two relationships will suffer because of jealousy. The bro will feel bad when he spends too much time with the girl and vice versa.

If he is a douche, this jealousy might make him sabotage this new relationship just to restore status quo.

2.      Feeling like the third wheel

In a bid to strike a balance, some men often try to merge their bromance with the new relationship. In this case, you find a man tagging the girlfriend whenever he is hanging with the bro. It also happens the other way round.

Assume you are a woman who has been tagged to a football game you have no interest in. The two men are engrossed in a conversation you don’t understand. They keep high-fiving each other and belching the beer they have gulped. Won't you feel like a third wheel?

People get tired of being in the company of two people who seem to act like you don’t exist. And before long, you stop tagging along. And knowing bromances, you are either with the program or not.

3.      Resentment from the man.

Picture this: This is a bond two men have cultivated over years. Their love goes beyond brotherly love. They are there for each other more than family is. As a woman, you can’t expect to waltz in it and change things.

We have to be realistic though. You may not need to spend more time with your man but as the relationship gets serious, you will need to. You will have to do things as a couple. And some men might resent this especially when the bro starts rubbing in their faces, how much fun they have been having in their absence.

Before you know it, a dude starts seeing the woman as needy. He starts demanding for breathing space. He starts resenting the woman for taking his friend away from him.

In conclusion, the three parties can strike a balance. However, it requires maturity to maintain a bromance in a relationship.
