They may be nothing more than a business relationship but so are many marriages which are not “arranged”. On the other hand, having a more mature and caring person helping young ones to make a decision that is not fed by hormones may be a good thing. In this country you have a 50/50 chance in our system. Maybe another approach might work better. That said, forcing anyone against their will is a bad idea in my book

It all depends if you trust whoever is finding you a mate, and whether they understand you and what would be best for you.

there is no perfect one in life, people will always settle for what they can and will learn to live with it. so it don’t matter if you found the guy or girl on your own or if mommy and daddy did it for you. end if the day, you will always learn to settle. so hey, if some one were to find me a decent guy with good credit why not? beats the admin of having to deal with the shit heads of this world.

I think the west always have the wrong impression of arranged marriage as forced marriage. There are cases of foreced marriage but not all arranged marriages are forced marriage. If someone makes an unbiased SWOT anaysis of the system of arranged marriage, then it is nothing but a form of strategic management for finding a good life partner. Strategic management is not a bad thing and it succeeds more than those relationship where people sleep around every weekend after frat parties, in the name of searching the “perfect one.”

Arranged marriages are alive and well in many parts of the world – and even the west. I have Ethiopian friends whose bros and sisters were in arranged situations and are very happy. And I’ve read examples of Indian families living in the west whose daughters/sons turned to arranged marriages bc the dating game just wasn’t working.

AT first i didn’t get it but then I saw that I the two parties have to share a very similar values, goals and cultures. And many times the people adhere to traditional values, which is diff than how Americans approach things.

Arranged marriage isn’t for me but I’ve seen it work well for others. And personally what I’ve learned is the importance of seeking somone with common values and some shared culture. That’s esp imp when discussing IR relationships.
