American I-care...

Posted by Ria, 03 Feb

Hello boys and girls, this is Aunt Ria with something, well touching.

Every once in awhile, an American Idol contestant touches the hearts of Idol viewers in a special way and this man well, he touched my heart and got me wishing they were more men like him, devoted, and willing to do everything to comfort the ones they love.

The latest contestant to pull off such a feat was none other than sixty-four year old Sherman Pore.  Even though Sherman was 36 years over the American Idol age limit of 28, he showed up at the auditions with a petition to be an American Idol contestant.

While American Idol has let contestants over the age limit audition in the past, most of those auditions have been for comic relief.  However, Sherman Pore said the reason he was auditioning was he had worked on a letter and petition to become an American Idol contestant with his lady love of twenty years while she was in the hospital because of cancer.  Sherman choked up as he said, “I believe that it helped her to keep a positive attitude, and I think it smoothed her passing and made it a little softer.᾿

Before his Los Angeles audition, Sherman also revealed to the judges that his lady love had passed away two days before the auditions.  Sherman sang “You Belong To Me᾿ and actually proved to be one of the better singers from the Los Angeles auditions.  After his audition, Sherman said “I won.  I am a winner.᾿

American Idol viewers also think Sherman Pore is a winner, and they want to see more of him.  Posters on the American Idol message board have started a petition of their own asking producers to bring Sherman back to perform on the American Idol 6 finale.  The petition is quickly gaining steam as one of the most popular posts on the message board.

I hope Sherman becomes successful in his pursuit of becoming an American Idol. The Idol's arficial rule of someone being 28 or less is highly discriminatory and age is no factor in setting the person's ability to sing. Later in the competition, the votes are entirely based on people calling in voting for their favorite. Since Sherman has the ability to sing, the public should have the final say in how far he goes in the competion since they are the one's who purchase the CD's.

He's struck a nerve. There are quite a few people out there in internet chat rooms and message boards who are lobbying to have him put on the show. I hope they're successful. Go Sherman!

well going by the words of the song, the man really misses the lady. And to sing that song even after her passing made the judges be touched by it coz it was sung from the heart. Sherman felt the song and felt it real deep. He showed more love from his lady love than more men would have cared to. You truly are a winner!!!!

Loved it when I saw it!! Would love to hear him do a CD full of old time loved songs, from the 30's and 40's. He's got the passion for it.

Sherman is the man . to do something like that in honor of your loved one is incredible . hopefully sherman will motivate more men to realise how special their woman is and to honor her while you both are together. but sherman as old as he is comes from an era when men were gentlemen and were not afraid to show their woman how much they care .unfortunately the younger generation does not care to or know how to show emotional and vocal love . big props to sherman.

I would definitely vote for Sherman if they let him on the show. Not only was he original, but he had more sincerity and integrity than probably anybody who's ever tried out on that show.
