How would you describe yourself?
I grew up rich and, therefor, the finer things don't impress me at all. Nor do money, workaholics, cars, image, etc. Being rich as a kid, then losing it all as a teen, has made me realize what contributes to quality of life. Money, boats, and cars might help, but none of it means anything without good people around: friends, family, etc. Good people mean so much, that you don't even need the money after all. I see unhappy rich people all the time. This is why I haven't rushed out into the world to make the most money that I could stand to make like every other american male seems to. It's all so empty. So I might turn one of my passions into a career one day, but only when I want to... Not to prove to society (and shallow chicks) that I can."What?! You didn't choose the easiest/richest major in college to spend the rest of your life in a miserable office crunching numbers helping your boss get richer?!... Just to be laid off right before retirement, but after the cancer?! You lazy deadbeat!"
Sometimes in our culture, one has to seek out knowledge and techniques to manage oneself and keep from ruining ones own life.
I'm not a gloomy cynic, but if you don't laugh and/or roll your eyes at some human culture (and yourself), you're clinging to a sick illusion.
I am looking for
Communication, honesty, integrity, beauty inside and out, healthy self-examination, humility, all those good things...
I understand if someone has different beliefs than I, and I can live with that only if we don't try to convert each other. Of course, I'd rather have someone who believes exactly what I believe, but I don't think she exists. In fact, I don't know if that's even possible. Spirituality is such a personal thing. All the specifics of all my lessons change and evolve throughout my life. My beliefs can't be summed up by a religion. My beliefs will sometimes overlap someone else's beliefs when we agree on a concept or a book about such beliefs, but... How we use those in our lives, where we put them in our mind, and our own relationship with God (for lack of a better word) in our feelings... Those are things we will never share. We can only attempt to come close with words wherever two or more are gathered for that purpose.
